Musical Beginnings

My parents must have had an inkling I might be musical when they named me Nicolette Melody! I remember music always being played in our house, either the latest songs my dad needed to learn (he played bass guitar in a country & western band) or the Top 40 countdown on the radio with my mum hovering over the record button on the tape player to make up her latest compilation.

My Musical Journey

Apart from learning a few guitar chords & singing in the school choir at junior school, I didn’t get the opportunity to learn an instrument until I went to secondary school. I was given a viola (because the school needed another viola player!) and I took to it like a duck to water. A few months later I started learning cornet with my town brass band.

For the next 7 years I did everything I could to do with music. I sang in choirs, played in bands, orchestras and string quartets both inside & outside of school. I composed, listened to & arranged music & I was thrilled to get grade A in my A-level music.

When I left school I trained to be a dental nurse but I didn’t leave music behind. I continued playing in the brass band, by now I was principle cornet, & I played in a couple of orchestras. I also helped with the training band giving one to one tuition to budding brass players which I loved. I still play in a brass band now.

Joining Jacappella

Today I have a young family.Having taken my little boy to a music group which we both loved, I experienced first hand the effect of music on youngsters. After coming across an article about Jacappella, I thought that’s it, that’s what I want to do! Jacappella was a familiar name as my daughter had experienced the classes when she was at nursery. We all loved the music & Isobel enjoyed demonstrating the actions as the CD played. In fact I recently found the CD and to my amazement she still remembered the songs even though she is now at school and it is some years since she had Jacappella lessons!

I am very excited to be able to share my love of music with children and their families through teaching Jacappella now and perhaps I can help make a few musical memories for you along the way! Come and join a class!
